Triple Whammy

The “Triple Care” in the product name refers to its three main benefits: UV protection, anti-aging and whitening. It follows the Korean skin care trend of “multifunctional” or multi-tasking products.

Scientific tests have proven that sun damage is the number one cause of cause of premature skin aging. Prolonged UV exposure can also cause skin darkening and aggravate hyperpigmentation marks such as acne scars, freckles and age spots. Two physical UV blockers — zinc oxide and titanium dioxide — are used in this sunscreen. Unlike chemical filters that absorb and convert UV radiation into heat, physical filters block and scatter UVA and UVB rays.

The sunscreen is also formulated with Innisfree’s signature green tea leaf extracts and sunflower seed oil for antioxidant and hydration benefits; Vitamin E (tocopheryl acetate) to help combat free radicals; niacinamide for brightening, and other botanical ingredients.

Please note that this sunscreen is scented, with “fragrance” listed in the middle of the ingredient list. The smell isn’t unpleasant and dissipates quickly. But if you prefer unscented sunscreens, it may be best to look for other options. Check out the CosDNA table for the complete list of ingredients and possible skin triggers.

Tint and Texture

One noticeable thing about this sunscreen is that it’s tinted. It’s fairly visible upon initial application but does not leave any white cast at all on my skin. It may be more evident for those who have darker skin tones.

Unlike the popular essence or gel-type sunscreens from other Korean and Japanese brands, the texture of this Innisfree sunscreen is more creamy-matte. While it doesn’t feel that heavy on my skin, it doesn’t feel slippery either. When applying it on my face and neck, I can definitely feel the extra layer on my skin and usually need to wait at least 10 to 15 minutes for it to absorb. The upside is that it feels like primer and layers well with the makeup I use. For those with oily or combination skin types like me, this sunscreen is definitely worth considering.

No Sweat!

For me, the best thing about this sunscreen is that it lives up to its water-resistant and sweat-resistant claims! I joined a beach clean-up one weekend and slathered it on my face, neck and arms before getting to work. In a few minutes, my T-shirt was soaked but the sweat on my face and neck just slid right off. Since the sunscreen is water-resistant, I made sure to use an oil cleanser and foaming wash to remove it afterward.

Although the sunscreen tube is only 50ml, I get a lot of mileage out of it. There are no adverse reactions when I wear it under makeup or on its own, or even on days when my sweating ranged from light to heavy.

If you’re looking for a daily sunscreen for the sweltering summer days, or one that doesn’t slip off easily with your makeup, the Innisfree Perfect UV Protection Cream Triple Care SPF 50+ PA+++ is for you! It currently retails at daiquansu.mobi for US$16.90.
